The Cadia District Enhancement Project (CDEP) is a community-driven project with the vision of working together to create environmental and community benefits for the Cadia district which will make it a more desirable place to live and work and enhance the value of the area as an agricultural, mining, and lifestyle choice.
CDEP was formed following feedback from the community that local residents felt that their agricultural properties were being devalued by their close proximity to Cadia’s mining operations and they were not receiving any of the enhanced socioeconomic benefits.
The CDEP Governing Committee consists of landowner volunteers and Cadia representatives.
The current executive roles are held as follows:
Chairperson – Mike Retallack
Vice Chairperson – Kim Masters
Treasurer – Edwina Crossing
The committee meets each quarter where they continue to introduce and drive programs to benefit the local Cadia District.
Current projects include:
Coordinated weeds and pest management program - Offering chemical training, resources, herbicide and subsidised agronomy program to develop a coordinated district approach to weed and pest management
A loyalty program offering First Aid courses, volunteering grants and educational grants
A weekly roadside rubbish collection service
Tree connectivity project
Innovation and Technology project focussing on improved telecommunications in the district.
CDEP was recognised in 2016, when it won the NSW Mining Community Excellence Award.
