Cadia is committed to engaging openly and honestly with the communities of Panuara, Errowanbang, Four Mile Creek, Waldegrave, Forest Reefs, Spring Terrace, Burnt Yards and the wider Cadia district.
Through our engagement activities, we aim to deliver long-term benefits to the local community that leaves a lasting economic and social legacy, long after we have finished mining.
We understand that we must develop ongoing positive relationships with our employees, contractors, stakeholders and host communities to retain social and regulatory licences to operate.
At Cadia, the Social Performance team not only works toward Newmont's purpose and values, but it also has its own vision to strive towards:
Cadia’s Social Licence to Operate supports strong operational performance based on operating excellence and trusted interactions with our communities that create shared benefit and prosperity.
In February 2020, we engaged Umwelt (Australia) Pty Limited to undertake a Socio-Economic Study to assess the social and financial contributions of our operations in the local community, referencing data from the Financial Year 2018-19. The study is conducted every five years to ground truth predictions outlined in the Cadia East Project Approval, and to assist the business in improving its economic contributions and future engagement programs in the community. Further information regarding the study is available below.
Our Stakeholder Engagement and Community Investment Strategy is our roadmap to achieving this. We review this annually and make changes where required, however the community is encouraged to provide feedback via our 24/7 Community Hotline on 1800 063 043.
Cadia prides itself on its expansive community support programs.
Face-to-face tours are currently limited. We are reviewing our Group Visitor Tours Guidelines and Procedure and will update on our website when finalised.
We are proud to support the communities in which we operate, and acknowledge that our workforce is our biggest asset.
The Cadia Community Consultative Committee (CCC) provides a forum for open discussion between representatives of Cadia and the community (stakeholder groups and councils).
The Cadia District Enhancement Project (CDEP) is a community-driven project with the vision of working together as a community to create environmental and community benefits
We own several agricultural properties which surround our mining operation and form an environmental impact buffer zone.
We aim to provide an open and responsive case management process for any concerns, complaints or grievances in relation to our operations.
Feedback from our community stakeholders in our most recent Community Sentiment Survey highlighted that the preferred communication method was our Cadia Newsletter.
