We own several agricultural properties which surround our mining operation and form an environmental impact buffer zone.
The Cadia Farmland covers approximately 7,000 hectares and is used primarily for grazing (cattle and sheep) and fodder production.
We offer commercial Grazing Rights Agreements on these properties, which aim to enhance relationships with near neighbours and enhance the value of the agricultural land in the Cadia District.
Only landholders who are part of the Cadia District can be considered under the tender process, which considers factors including financial, safety, location, community involvement, environmental management and training.
We have tailored agronomy programs for each of our agisted farms and employ a local agronomist to provide advice about techniques for improving the production of livestock and crops.
Sticky Nightshade is a weed that is an emerging threat to landholders in the Central Tablelands Local Land Services region. We have a dedicated Sticky Nightshade weed management program which involves the coordination of spray contractors, earthworks contractors and allocation of herbicide to our agistees, as well as affected landholders in the Cadia District.
We offer Residential Tenancy Agreements for houses on Cadia Farmland through McGrath Estate Agents.
Newmont Cadia, in partnership with Bullseye Ag and PY Agronomy, is leading a three-year initiative to combat sticky nightshade, an invasive weed threatening valuable grazing land in the district.
Since its launch in 2023, the Cadia District Community Sticky Nightshade Program has successfully supported landholders in treating infestation areas. A key innovation in this effort is the development of a 3D digital sticky nightshade model, created in collaboration with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) which is now freely available on the NSW DPI WeedWise website.
Each year the program builds on its success, with a focus on increased subsidies, new research on chemical treatments, infrastructure support for farm spraying, and expanded collaboration with local councils and agricultural experts. With ongoing community engagement, on-farm reviews, and targeted spraying efforts, the program continues to evolve to best support local landholders in managing this persistent weed.

Research Site Visit Update
In September 2024, the Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development (DPIRD), Newmont Cadia, and Bullseye Ag invited spray contractors, Local Council Weed Officers and Local Land Services to visit the Sticky Nightshade Research Field sites. Representatives from DPIRD provided an update on several chemical options being trialed to control the spread of Sticky Nightshade. Watch the video below to find out more about these options and the key priorities moving forward.
