We are proud to support the communities in which we operate, and acknowledge that our workforce is our biggest asset. Through our Workforce Engagement Program, we provide opportunities for our workforce to participate in community and environmental programs to give back to the local community.
Cadia staff regularly cook up a storm to support families in need at Cancer Care Western New South Wales and as part of the Dinner in a Dash program at Ronald McDonald House.
Families can access these meals at any hour, and we are grateful to be involved in such an important initiative within our local community.
Newmont Cadia (Cadia) employees have come together to build a vibrant new garden and play area at ‘The Orchard’ in Orange, transforming it into a welcoming sanctuary where families can connect, heal, and find moments of joy in a safe environment.
The Cadia team worked tirelessly to clean out existing garden beds, move mulch and granite, secure sleepers, and install stepping stones. The transformation was made even more special with the addition of a new cubby house, featuring a mud kitchen, table, and chairs all lovingly built and painted by members of Cadia’s workforce.
Cadia extends its heartfelt thanks to key partners who made this transformation possible. Keech Constructions played a crucial role by donating time, materials, and equipment for drainage work in preparation for the project. Whites Transport, a long-time partner of over 20 years, contributed logistics support, while McSigns added a special touch with a custom splash-back for the mud kitchen.
Students at Spring Terrace Public School are now able to play and learn in the beautiful surrounds of their new community garden, thanks to Newmont Cadia’s (Cadia) “garden blitz”.
Working with staff from the school and its P&C committee, volunteers from Cadia’s workforce spent two days transforming the area by creating a yarning circle, built and filled in wicking beds, installed granite paths, created sensory and metal-bordered granite pathways and boxed up the area to produce a vibrant and inviting space for the students to enjoy.
Over two days, we completed a Schoolyard Blitz at Eugowra Public School, building a water wall, sensory path, transforming a nature outdoor learning space and helped fix up their far away tree area which was impacted by flooding.
In November 2022, a number of towns in Cabonne Local Government Area were affected by significant flooding. To support in the initial response, Cadia sent a team of volunteers each day for three weeks to assist with the immediate clean up. This included a group of our electricians, who helped re-wire the local supermarket in Eugowra.
Twenty-five Cadia employees teamed up with the three Orange Rotary Groups to transform the entrance of Rotary Park at Mount Lindsay. Our workforce levelled and built a new retaining wall, improved drainage, mulched and planted over 200 native plants.
A team of 30 Cadia employees volunteered to overhaul a section of Housing Plus’ Domestic Violence Crisis Centre, conducting a garden blitz to create a tranquil garden space featuring an Indigenous yarning circle and raised vegetable garden for the residents to enjoy.
We hosted a Schoolyard Blitz at Calare Public School involving around 30 Cadia volunteers who worked with the students and teachers to develop an inclusive Indigenous garden.
The Schoolyard Blitz involved the establishment of a yarning circle using rocks, logs and a crushed granite path in the outline of a platypus, as well as developing native garden areas, including a bush tucker garden.
After the school had previously installed a natural-based playground equipment, the Schoolyard Blitz focused on bringing the playground to life by placing the required soft-fall material for the equipment, developing a path to run through the area and establishing a native garden including natural materials such as boulders and a tree trunk.
Our workforce engagement program also rewards the volunteering efforts of our workforce through our Good Onya! Program.
When a Newmont employee or their spouse volunteers 25 hours or more of their personal time during a calendar year to support a disadvantaged group, charity, sporting club, registered organisation or educational organisation, we will donate $250 to that organisation to recognise their contribution.
In 2024, 77 employees contributed over 6000 hours towards local organisations through our Good Onya! Program.
