Mine Open Day
Cadia Valley Operations held its open day in conjunction with the Orange Farmers Market on Saturday 14 May 2016.
More than 4,000 members of the local community attended, having a fun day out and gaining a better understanding of mining along the way.
The day incorporated more than 70 market stalls, an art exhibition, live music and an interactive mining display centre featuring gold panning, a light vehicle simulator, virtual underground tour and two new 3-D Heritage models. For the first time, our contracting partners were also invited to come along on the day and set up displays, with Atlas Copco’s loader being a definite favourite for the children.
Mine tour buses departed from the Orange Showground every 10 minutes from 8.30am - 2.30pm. A total of 37 bus runs and more than 2,000 people visited the mine site on the 2.5 hour tour.
Visitors had the opportunity to see three different stops on the tour including; the ever popular mining machinery display with views of the open pit, a look into Concentrator 2 and lastly the tailings lookout which showed recent rehabilitation works.
$4,680 was raised from the event and was donated to the Rotary Club of Orange Daybreak.
The CVO Open Day would not have taken place without the help of more than 100 volunteers from the CVO workforce who assisted in the running of the event and ensured the safety of all visitors to the mine site.
